Held via the Zoom platform, the workshop will bring together European specialists in food science, public health, and interdisciplinary research, offering an up-to-date perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the field of food safety.

An event dedicated to European policies and scientific cooperation

The event’s program will include presentations on strategic directions and funding opportunities under the Horizon Europe programme, with a focus on European policies for safe and sustainable food systems. Participants will explore how the new research priorities of the European Union support the development of resilient, transparent, and sustainability-driven food chains.

The concept of “One Health” — an integrated approach that recognizes the interdependence between human, animal, and environmental health — will also be addressed as a foundation for building a more balanced and responsible food system.

Research, innovation, and metrology for a safe food future

A key part of the workshop will focus on the role of science and technology in ensuring food safety. European initiatives and projects will be presented that explore the application of metrology in food quality control, pollutant monitoring, and the detection of micro- and nanoplastic materials.

Participants will also learn how open access to knowledge and interdisciplinary collaboration contribute to accelerating scientific progress in food safety and promoting transparency in research.

From local sourcing to preventive health

Another major topic of the event will address the relationship between nutrition, disease prevention, and the sustainability of food supply chains. Discussions will explore how food supplement systems can become safer and more sustainable by relying on local sources and integrating “One Health” principles into their development.

The workshop will also highlight the role of European research infrastructures in supporting collaborative projects dedicated to food safety, as well as the potential of nanotechnologies in detecting contaminants and improving food quality.

A shared vision for a safe food system

The “Food Safety First” event aims to provide a forum for dialogue between researchers, authorities, and industry, fostering stronger European cooperation in the field of food safety. Through the exchange of experience and presentation of the latest scientific developments, the workshop will contribute to shaping a common vision for a safe, sustainable, and equitable food future.

The event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Education and Research – CNCS/CCCDI – UEFISCDI, under the project PN-IV-P8-8.1-PRE-HE-ORG-2025-0257, funded through PNCDI IV.
